The annual Toronto Section Mountaineering camp is the key activity in the Mountaineering calendar.

ACC Toronto Section Mountaineering Camp - Westfall / Nemo (Selkirk Mountains)

August 12-19, 2018 (Sunday to Sunday)

The 2018 ACC Toronto Section Mountaineering Camp will be located in the Westfall / Nemo area of the Selkirk Mountains. The campsite will be situated in the upper part of South Houston Creek just west of the Gobi Pass at an elevation of 2040 m. The area provides a variety of technical objectives including snow, ice and rock (granite) routes, as well as opportunities to hike and scramble.

The Camp will be the "6th week" of the Boutique Mountaineering Camp (BMC) currently being offered by Colwest Alpine Adventures ( Further detailed information and photos about the location can be found at their website.

An Introduction to Mountaineering Course with an ACMG guide and assistant guide is being offered at the Toronto Section Camp for up to 6 beginner mountaineers (thus, the guide/student ratio would be about 1/3).

20 spots in camp are available for up to:

  • 6 Beginners (must register for Introduction to Mountaineering Course)
  • 6 Rope Leaders (experienced Alpine Leaders)
  • Participants (must demonstrate suitable alpine experience)

Approximate Costs (taxes included):
  a) Rope Leader:   $1,100
  b) Participant:   $1,100
  c) Beginners taking Introduction to Mountaineering: $1,950*
   *(Includes cost of camp and mountaineering course)

Costs include:

  • Single occupancy tents
  • Hot water shower
  • Food catered in camp, cook and assistant cook
  • Shuttle service from Golden B.C. to the helicopter staging area located at the head of McMurdo Creek (~ 2 hours), and return
  • Helicopter transport for you and your equipment from staging area to basecamp, and return
  • ACMG guide and assistant guide (for course participants)
  • VHF radios

Costs are approximate, and subject to change based on participation and unforeseen factors or events.

To Register:
To allow everyone a fair chance to attend, registration for the ACC Toronto Section Mountaineering Camp will begin on Monday January 15, 2018 at 8:00 pm EST.
Please send an email to Sean Russell at and indicate whether you wish to register for (a) Introduction to Mountaineering; or (b) Rope Leader; or (c) Participant, and provide information regarding your previous mountaineering experience (e.g., camps, courses, peaks, etc., and any other relevant information). Provide a phone number so that Sean and the Mountaineering Committee Members can call you to discuss your relevant experience.

Please note:

  • Registrants will be put on the list on a first come, first served basis, in the order in which they email Sean.
  • A screening process will then take place to determine a registrant's eligibility.
  • Following eligibility screening, deposit must then be paid within 7 days before anyone is guaranteed a spot in Camp.
  • No registrations will be taken prior to 8:00 pm EST on January 15, 2018.
  • No one under the age of 18 may register for Camp.
  • Camp is for ACC members only.

Deposit amount:

  • Rope Leader or Participant: $300
  • Introduction to Mountaineering: $500

Deposits are non-refundable/non-transferable.

Getting there:
Participants will meet in Golden B.C. in the evening of Saturday August 11, 2018 to go over the final logistics and plans for the Camp. In the early morning (6:00 am MDT) of August 12, 2018, the group will meet up with their gear and depart from Golden B.C. on a shuttle at 7:00 am for transport to the helicopter staging area.
