The annual Toronto Section Mountaineering camp is the key activity in the Mountaineering calendar.

Toronto Section Mountaineering Camp - July 8-15, 2017

Elizabeth Parker Hut, Lake O'Hara

This year's Section Camp will be located at the Elizabeth Parker Hut in Yoho National Park.

  • Spaces have also been reserved at the Abbott Pass Hut for those wishing to attempt Mt.s Lefroy or Victoria.
  • An Intro to Mountaineering Course with ACMG guide Tom Wolfe is being offered at camp for 4-6 beginner mountaineers.
  • Catering will be provided by Mo's Mountain Cuisine.

20 spots are available for:

  • 4-6 Beginners (must register for Intro to Mountaineering).
  • Minimum 7 Rope Leaders (experienced Alpine Leaders who must be willing to assist at least 1 day with Intro to Mountaineering).
  • Up to 9 Participants (must demonstrate suitable alpine experience).


  • Rope Leaders/Participants: $1000
  • Intro to Mountaineering: $1750 (*Includes cost of camp and course)

Costs include

  • All food catered in camp and freeze-dried meals at Abbot Hut
  • Use of both huts
  • 1 year Parks Canada Backcountry Permit
  • Parks Canada bus to and from Lake O'Hara
  • Shuttle service from and to Banff
  • ACMG guide
  • VHF radios

To Register:

Due to the popularity of this location, Camp spots are expected to fill up fast! To allow everyone a fair chance to attend, registration will begin on Monday, February 6, 2017, at precisely 7 pm.

Email Bryan Thompson and indicate whether you wish to register for Intro to Mountaineering; as a Rope Leader or as a Participant. Provide a phone number so that Bryan can call you to discuss your relevant experience.

  • Registrants will be put on the list on a first come, first served basis, in the order in which they emailed.
  • A screening process will then take place to determine a registrant's eligibility.
  • Following eligibility screening, deposit must then be paid within 7 days before anyone is guaranteed a spot in camp.
  • No registrations will be taken prior to 7 pm on February 6.
  • No one under the age of 18 may register for Camp.
  • Camp is for ACC members only.

Deposit amount:

  • Rope Leader/Participant: $300
  • Intro to Mountaineering: $500
  • Deposits are non-refundable/non-transferable.

Getting There

Participants will meet in Banff, Alberta, in the early morning of July 8, where a shuttle bus will be provided to transport camp members, gear and food to the Lake O'Hara parking lot near Field, BC. From there, a Parks Canada bus will transport us to Lake O'Hara. A 10-minute approach hike will bring us to the hut. All members of camp will be required to assist in carrying the food and communal gear to and from the hut.
