Know Before You Go

  • Ice-climbing is inherently dangerous. Please use what is left of common sense.
  • Ice climbing is an outdoor winter activity. We will be on the ice all day, dress accordingly.
    • Layers, sweat-wicking (non-cotton) base layer
    • Wool and insulated mid-layers
    • A top waterproof shell
    • Large puffy belay layer for hanging around
    • Snow pants & long johns
    • Warm socks or multiple
    • Hat with no pompom to fit under a helmet
    • Waterproof gloves, multiple pairs
  • Snowshoes are very helpful in getting in and out of the lake, but not required
  • We will have a warming tent available, but hot-hands are your new best friend.
  • Pack plenty of food for the day, best to have snacks that do well freezing
    • There will be chili available for cash purchase at Diamond Lake
  • Pack plenty of water and stay hydrated! Make sure to bring warm tea and pack water into thermal bottles to keep it from freezing
  • There are no washrooms available at Diamond lake. We strongly encourage participants to plan for this and use the facilities at their accommodations before arriving at Diamond Lake.
  • Ensure your waivers are signed and good to go before you climb. Waivers are available at each crag
  • Clinics will meet in front of Guardian Angel and depart.
  • We will have a good cell signal at Diamond Lake
  • Cash is king! Please be prepared to purchase chili and other tickets on-site with cash. We will have a Square terminal available as well
