Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival reaches Toronto this weekend! Hosted at TIFF Lightbox, we’re brining you the best outdoor and adventure films submitted to the festival this year. Ticket sales for this event go directly to supporting ACC Toronto Section’s club activities. Unlike smaller destinations, Toronto is able to bring you MANY more films.

Each program has something for everyone. Join us this Saturday and Sunday March 21st and 22nd for up to 4 carefully selected programs of awe inspiring films! Each day has 2 unique programs – one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

The Film Festival leaves Toronto after this weekend so don’t miss out! Tickets are $29 each and $50 for day passes. Students receive a 10% discount and you save 15% if you purchase a Festival Pass for al 4 programs.

Our 2026 ACC Toronto Section Camp is nearly full with only 4 slots left for self-guided participants. We’re also accepting waitlist applications for the guided courses. Also please note the updated current cost estimates for each:

As many were aware, our long-standing Pub Nite location (The Imperial) sadly closed late last year. However, this did not mean the end for our section’s monthly social gathering; we’re pleased to announce a new location and schedule for this season’s Pub Nite Series! Our Pub Nite Series for this season will be on the first Tuesday of every month at C’est What? near St. Lawrence Market.

What to expect:
Our social evening will begin after 7 pm, kicking off the evening at 7:30 pm. At 8 pm, a guest speaker will regale us with stories of adventure followed by more social time. This is a great place to get to know your fellow club members or know more about the club!

We’ll be announcing the next guest speaker soon so stay tuned! If you are interested in speaking, feel free to reach out to our social coordinator at social@alpineclubtoronto.ca. Unsure if your topic is speaking worthy? Don’t worry, we’re always up to hear a great story regardless of the subject! Want to run something but not a talk? No problem! Registration is now open for our 2026 Section Camp taking place July 19-26. Through great odds, we’ve secured the elusive Illecillewaet Hut (A.O. Wheeler Hut) in Glacier National Park. The hut provides great access to many mountain ranges including Mount Sir Donald. At section camp, we are offering both guided and self-guided participation. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop or improve your mountaineering skills!

Trip logistics have been handled by our amazing mountaineering coordinator and section camp committee that were able to put together this amazing trip in such a short amount of time. Please note that a deposit is necessary to secure your spot.

Stanley Mitchell Hut – Little Yoho Valley

Fantastic trails and peaks, reasonable access and even a green meadow in front of the hut – the Stanley Mitchell is one of the best family backcountry destinations in the Rockies.

Many scrambling and hiking peaks and trails will keep the entire family busy for many summer days. Climbing the President and the Vice President are excellent moderate mountaineering challenges and are easily combined in a day with an early start from the hut.

Approaching the hut up the Little Yoho Valley and a making a return trip down the super-scenic Iceline Trail is a truly classic hiking loop.

A.O. Wheeler Hut – Rogers Pass

This is the birthplace of alpinism in North America. Many of the routes are steeped in tradition and history, an interesting fact to remember as you reach for that next impeccable quartzite handhold or take that next footstep along one of the many trails which wind through the lush cedar forests that dominate the region.

The rugged terrain in Glacier National Park creates the opportunity for many challenging trips. The mountains are steep, the valleys are narrow and many of the trails involve high elevation gain to reach stunning ridges and peaks. The Wheeler Hut is an ideal base for climbing as most peaks are within day access from the cabin. On the north side of the highway, the Hermit Range provides many popular objectives on both good rock and ice, Tupper and the peaks of the Rogers massif being foremost among them. The Asulkan Group stretches to the south from the hut, beginning as an as popular hiking and scrambling terrain, and becoming more serious as it reaches Sapphire Col. Closer to home, Sir Donald’s peaks to the east give everything from desperate north faces to classic ridge climbs. There are very good reasons that, at the beginning of the 20th century the Rogers Pass area was the first centre of alpinism in North America.

We’re excited to announce that Steve De Maio will be our guest speaker for our AGM on November 22nd at The Granite Brewery and Tied House. Please RSVP so we can plan accordingly; additional details below. This event is free for all members and non members.

Join us as Steve shares stories and anecdotes from his many adventures (and miss-adventures) completing ground up first ascents on the Niagara Escarpment and in the Canadian Rockies, all the while exploring and pushing “The Ragged Edge” of his capacity. There are close calls, learnings, huge falls, factor II falls and deep emotional and introspective elements, observations, and lessons. Steve has been described as “50% Gladiator and 50% Philosopher” and, at times, “too intense” or, perhaps “appropriately intense”. Joins us free for Steve’s riveting talk on Nov 22 and you can be the judge!
