DESCRIPTION:
Our weekly training and social every Wednesday continues for the month of April, May and June at Riverdale Park East. Club members have planned weekly outdoor training for a chance to keep active, and a social outing. A great addition to our other social events!

Walk/jog up and down the hill at Riverdale Park East by Broadview and Millbrook streetcar stop. Keep your heart rate and morale high. Keep a steady pace/effort that should not feel hard at any time during the workout but may leave you pleasantly tired at the end. This event occurs every Wednesday in all weather unless it’s truly miserable.

Itinerary:
Meet at the top of the hill on Broadview Street – Workout starts 6:45 pm SHARP.
Warmup – 10 minutes.
Training – 1 hour.
Cool down – 5 minutes.
Each week we’ll find a pub on Danforth depending on interest.

COST: Free

GEAR: Reflective vest recommended. Hiking boots/running shoes, appropriate clothing for weather conditions, water, and headlamp. Weighted backpack optional. Depending on weather the hill could be slippery.

WHERE: Pottery Road starting at Todmorden Mills parking lot

DESCRIPTION:
Join us for some off-season (or on-season for some?) training and social (almost) every Wednesday for the months of January, February and March; excluding February 12.

Hike either along Pottery Road (paved) or for a more rugged experience, take the Dave Money Hill trail.  Alternatively, combine the two and average a 9% incline, 37m elevation gain over approximately 400m.  Maintain a steady pace/effort that should not feel hard at any time during the workout but may leave you pleasantly tired at the end.   Keep your heart rate and morale high!  Meet all weather unless it’s truly miserable.

Itinerary:
Meet at Todmorden Mills parking lot – Workout starts 6:45 pm SHARP.
START – Hike laps on either Pottery Road or Dave Money Hill Trail or both.
Warmup – 10 minutes.
Hiking – 1 hour.
Cool down – 5 minutes.
FINISH – Dairy Queen (1040 Broadview Ave) or a pub on Danforth depending on interest.

  Dave Money Hill starts on Oxbow Trail at Todmorden Wildflower Preserve near the rear of the parking lot – take the right fork to start Dave Money Hill Trail.  Trail finishes on a road north of Helliwell Place, ~250m south of Dairy Queen.

Topic: This summer a group of ACC climbers traveled to Europe to explore the iconic area of “Swiss Alpine Trinity” (Eiger, Mönch   and Jungfrau). The trip started with our hike to the beautiful alpine hut Cabane De Dix and climbing the summit of La Luette. After a week of acclimatization hikes and some ice climbing, we moved to the Top of Europe (Jungfraujoch) and reached the summit of Mönch, coming back in stormy weather and heavy snow moving in. Chasing the weather led us then to rock climbing in Chamonix and attempting Weissmiss, after over 1m fresh snow accumulation. Alps wonders were dreams come true; we would like to share those unforgettable experiences and future trips in planning.

Take notice that the Annual General Meeting of members of the Alpine Club of Canada, Toronto Section will be held on Saturday November 26th at The Pilot between 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Be advised that the agenda for the meeting, the Minutes of the 2021 AGM, Yearly Financial Report, and the slates for election of the board of directors, will be sent to all members two weeks prior to the AGM. Also note that only members in good standing will be permitted to vote at the meeting. Please ensure that your membership is up to date one week prior if you wish to vote at the meeting.

We are also very pleased to announce our amazing guest speaker, an absolute monster of a climber, Sabrina Appiah!

Sabrina Appiah is a sport climber, born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario. The daughter of immigrant parents, she began climbing at the age of 26 at the original Rock Oasis (Bathurst and Front). At 35 Sabrina sent the Man in Me 13d, gaining its first female ascent and the first female send of that grade in Ontario, without the use of a coach or trainer. She was previously sponsored by MEC and has a short documentary film (The Titan Project) produced by Melanin Basecamp about her journey to send 14a (ongoing).

Sabrina does administrative work for a non-profit substance use treatment centre, where she’s been for the last 13 years. She is currently completing her accreditation as a personal growth/transformative coach, which uses the power of deep listening, observation and thought/behaviour pattern recognition to initiate change in people feeling stuck in their lives.

Sabrina will be speaking about the role climbing has played as a catalyst for her own personal growth and transformation.

All are welcome to attend, member and non-member alike so spread the word!

ACC Montreal Section is hosting a virtual meeting so members can meet the candidates for ACC National’s Secretary and President positions. We invite all ACC members to join. The meeting will be approximately 90 minutes and follow the format:

• 15 min introduction
• 10 min presentation per candidate
• 5 min question period per candidate
• 15 min question by panel to any candidate
