Bon Echo 101 weekend
Custodian: Gavin Smith
Saturday, June 22 – Sunday, June 23, 2019
The Bon Echo 101 weekend has become a Toronto Section tradition during which climbers who have never previously been to this beautiful locale are teamed up with experienced climbers to introduce them to it. There are no sport routes, only trad, therefore familiarity with the protocols of multi-pitch climbing is recommended.
Because the cliff lies within a provincial park, there are rules that must be observed (mandatory helmets is one). Make yourself familiar with them at the section website: alpineclubtoronto.ca/bonecho/
The ACC hut is on the far side of the lake, and most climbers get there by the club boat. Usual pickup times at the public dock on North Mazinaw Heights Rd. are 10:30 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Other times must be arranged ahead of time with the custodian.
CUSTODIAN: Contact Gavin Smith (gavin@gavinsmith.ca) by Thursday evening to let him know when you are arriving. Those specifically interested in the 101 should contact him even earlier to book a spot and to let him know what your experience is so that we can team you up with appropriate leaders.
HUT FEES: Members: $20 per day/night. Non-members: $40 per day/night. Fees include boat transport to the dock and cliff.
WHAT TO EXPECT: The hut is for cooking and eating only, with dinnerware and cooking equipment provided. Climbers sleep in their own tents. There is a limited number of campsites.
Please pack out your garbage. The last boat trip to the dock is at 5 p.m. Sunday (unless the custodian advises otherwise). Please respect the custodian’s right to go home at a reasonable hour.
TRIP CLASSIFICATION: B/C
WAIVER: You must read and understand it ahead of time and sign a colour copy in ink on arrival: https://alpineclubtoronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/ACCWaiver.pdf
