Pub Night: Mylissa Prisner – “Iceland”

February 7, 2019

In October of 2018, with a milestone birthday fast approaching, Mylissa found herself wanting an adventure, but without the funds to make things happen the “easy way”. She reached out to her friends on social media, looking for a couch to crash on in either Montreal or Ottawa, hoping for at least a weekend get-away. One unexpected response eclipsed all others – a friend working as a glacier guide inviting her to come visit him in Iceland, at Vatnajökull National Park, accommodations paid. The choice was obvious. And so, the adventure began…

Mylissa Prisner is a Toronto area Photographer and Climber, with a day job in Conservation and a side-gig at a local gym. Growing up, her time was split between her grandparents’ off-grid, forested property on the Canadian shield, and the flat, farmlands of Lower South-Western Ontario. Though no stranger to the outdoors, Mylissa was only introduced to technical climbing in March of 2013, transitioning from the gym to climbing outdoors within the season. She’s climbed rock in various locations on the Niagara Escarpment, as well as the Adirondacks (NY), and Red River Gorge in Kentucky. In the past year, Mylissa has begun to learn to lead on traditional gear, and starting with her trip to Iceland, begun to explore glacier travel and mountaineering.

Mylissa has worked in the gym environment for nearly 4 years, in a variety of roles including junior setter. She is certified to teach top-rope by the ACMG.

Mylissa has been a member of the Toronto Section since August of 2014 and has both participated in and lead trips within the Section. An active Volunteer for the Ontario Alliance of Climbers for several years, Mylissa is more commonly recognized from her tabling efforts tabling at public events and for tirelessly putting out fires at the OAC’s annual Beaver Valley Climbing Festival.
