The second annual Madawaska Ice Fest is a celebration of ice climbing, hosted by the Alpine Club of Canada Toronto Section. We invite participants of all skill levels and abilities to join us for a weekend of climbing and community.

Blind River, ON, CanadaWHEN: Feb 13 – 16, 2026
Departure for Algoma will be Friday, Feb. 13 (after work);
return from Algoma on Monday, Feb. 16, 2025 (after climbing).
WHERE: Blind River, Iron Bridge, Ontario (6 hours north of Toronto)
DESCRIPTION: Three days of ice climbing. Lots of good ice. Multiple areas with multiple climbs between 20-50 metres high.
ACCOMMODATION: We will be staying at the “7 Birches” cottage at the former Mountain View Camp on Lake Duborne, 13-14 km north of Blind River. There's room for up to 8 participants in the cottage. Cost for the cottage: about $30-35 per person per night (depending on how many people go).
If another 4-8 people sign up, then there is the possibility of renting another cottage nearby on Granary Lake.
TRANSPORTATION: Cars (carpooling encouraged)

DESCRIPTION: Enjoy a day of casual skiing on your cross-country or touring skis in the Kolapore Uplands with friends. The trails are located in a rugged, semi-wilderness area along the Niagara Escarpment in The Blue Mountains, about 20 km southwest of Collingwood. The trails are carefully blazed with orange triangle blazes, but the network is complex. Thanks to the great work of the Kolapore Wilderness Trails Association there are plenty of skiable but not machine groomed trails to discover; the trails will most likely be compacted by previous skiers the day previous.
We will be meeting at Kolapore Uplands Parking Lot (https://maps.app.goo.gl/

Ice Climbing: Calabogie Caper/ Calaboogie Nights 2

Calabogie, ON K0J 1H0, CanadaDescription: A weekend event at a reliable ice climbing area with many climbs having a range of difficulties. Calabogie is about five hours from Toronto. Accommodations have been arranged in Ottawa for climbers arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday afternoon (contact the trip leader). We will car-pool from Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday. Top-ropes will be established but leaders are very welcome. The trip will be cross-advertised with the Ottawa Section. Additional climbing possibly at Lac Poisson Blanc or Gatineau Park (Quebec).

Bon Echo Provincial Park, 16151 Hwy 41, Cloyne, ON K0H 1K0, CanadaDESCRIPTION: Weekend of winter camping, ice climbing, snowshoeing and/or XC skiing at the Bon Echo hut, conditions permitted. A chance to get in some winter climbing and camping at Bon Echo and return to a warm hut for food and drinks. Drive up Friday and park at the usual spot (the public dock). Hike across the lake with your gear and make camp. Saturday and Sunday there will be opportunities for activities including climbing.
MAXIMUM PARTICIPANTS: 25
GEAR: Plenty of warm clothes. Winter camping gear including a tent, a winter sleeping bag plus a second bag is recommended. Ice climbing gear, including a mandatory helmet. Snowshoes or skis. Food and drink (which we can cook in the hut like in the summer but not sleep there).

Calabogie, ON K0J 1H0, CanadaDescription: A weekend event at a reliable ice climbing area with many climbs having a range of difficulties. Calabogie is about five hours from Toronto. Accommodations have been arranged in Ottawa for climbers arriving Friday night and leaving Sunday afternoon (contact the trip leader). We will car-pool from Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday. Top-ropes will be established but leaders are very welcome. The trip will be cross-advertised with the Ottawa Section. Additional climbing possibly at Lac Poisson Blanc or Gatineau Park (Quebec).

A chance to get in some winter climbing and camping at Bon Echo and return to a warm hut for food and drinks. Drive up Friday and park at the usual spot (the public dock). Hike across the lake with your gear and make camp. Saturday and Sunday there will be opportunities for activities including climbing.

) DESCRIPTION: Enjoy a day of backcountry skiing or splitboarding right here in Ontario at the beautiful Limberlost Forest and Wildlife Preserve. Located about 3 hours north of Toronto, close to Huntsville, this location boasts over 70 kilometers of trails, 20 lakes and more than 10,000 unspoiled acres in the Muskoka wilderness. Thanks to the great work of the West Wind Highlands Ski Touring Association (https://wwhsta.org/), there are plenty of skiable gladed runs situated at the old Limberlost ski resort (the old T-bar, believed to be the oldest in Canada, is still standing), and lots of additional terrain to explore in the surrounding area, as well as plenty of more mellow routes for beginners.
