Climb On! ACC Toronto Section’s bi-weekly newsletter – December 3, 2018

December 3, 2018

ClimbOn! is a bi-weekly news bulletin from the Toronto Section of the Alpine Club of Canada. Visit http://alpineclubtoronto.ca for information or the calendar for more details on all events.

This year’s AGM was a smashing success! Pat Morrow gave a engaging speech and our sponsors offered amazing prizes yet again. We would like to send a special thank you to Arc’teryx, Patagonia, Mount Saint Louis Moonstone, Basecamp Climbing, True North Climbing and The Rock Oasis for their support this year.

We would also like to welcome our new Board of Directors for 2019! We expect the Board of Directors will choose as its Chair the one and only Bryan Thompson. Bryan has been a pillar of the Section for the last seven years and has worked feverishly to bring you the activities you enjoy and help develop our leaders. We are looking forward to the great things that will come under his direction. This year we also welcome two new directors, Shaina Vellone and Clayton Vergeer, to the team. We have some big plans underway to make 2019 yet again another great year, including completing the Bon Echo Renewal Project, a refresh to our website and a new volunteer appreciation program – stay tuned!

In the meantime, ice and ski season has officially kicked off with the first ice forming in Bancroft and the Ontario ski hills opening over the last few weeks.  We hope to be filling our calendar with events shortly.  We already have a Nordic ski clinic, a backcountry ski weekend and a female ice climbing clinic on the calendar.  We have hired ACMG Mountain Guide Jen Olson to provide an instructional weekend for female climbers on February 1st – 3rd.  Sign up will happen on December 10th, 9pm, by email to aperelacc@gmail.com.

If you are interested in learning how to lead trips, we will be hosting the annual “Showing you the Frozen Ropes” on December 8th at the Imperial Pub.  This will be followed by the annual and much enjoyed Ice Climber’s Curry Night.

If winter is not your thing and you are missing summer or spring, you might be interested in our December 26th trip to Red Rocks for rock climbing in great weather.

Lasts but not least, our planned dates for the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival dates have been announced. The Toronto screenings will be on Thursday March 14 through March 16th.  Tickets will go on sale by mid-December, so keep a look out.

Looking forward to a great winter season!

Best,
The Alpine Club of Canada Toronto Section
