Canadian Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid and Advanced Wilderness First Certification Courses, April 26-28 and May 4-5, 2019

The Toronto Section has set the dates for our annual Canadian Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid and Advanced Wilderness First Certification Courses. They will be held on April 26-28 and May 4-5, respectively.

Participants who lead two trips subsequent to taking one of these two courses will be eligible for a 50% rebate on course fees.

Weekend 1: CANADIAN RED CROSS WILDERNESS AND REMOTE FIRST AID CERTIFICATION. April 26-28, 2019

This weekend consists of 20+ hours of instruction by David Dick (Alpha Response). It is highly recommended participants stay overnight, on site, to maximize instruction and training time. The weekend will cover a basic level of wilderness & remote first aid, including standard first aid & CPR, plus special material on techniques for wilderness and remote areas. Course also offers strategies for providing extended care for up to 24 hours. No prerequisite experience required. However, most of the course is taught in an outdoor setting and requires greater physical activity and endurance than typical first aid training.

The Everton Scout Camp facility includes bunk house cabins for overnight accommodation. There is also a cliff with a large ledge, making it a great teaching setting for climber focused first aid and rescue

Fees: The course costs $350+ HST, or $395.50/student. This fee includes books, first aid materials and accommodation. Meals are not included. A 50% non-refundable/non-transferable deposit will be required for registration.

Gear Requirements: No specific climbing gear is required. Personal equipment for fall camping or sleeping in a small bunkie is required.
