Bon Echo changes with Reopening Ontario

With the province entering Step 3 on July 16th 2021, we are pleased to announce the following changes to our Bon Echo climbing trips: Limit of 13 people (Step 2) increased to limit of 17 people (Step 3). Hut open to use. Limit of ‘one weekend a month’ lifted for the month of July. 5 pm pickup time restriction lifted. Arrangements are still made with the custodian. A gentle reminder to still obey all other protocols in place. Please refer to the Bon Echo section of our website for full information.

Rope Volunteers for Rope for Hope!

Make-A-Wish Canada is looking for rope volunteers to help with their 10th and final Rope for Hope rappel. This year the rappel will take place on August 13th, from the roof of the 35-storey Westin Harbour Castle Hotel overlooking Toronto’s waterfront. In recent years, many ACC Toronto Section members have joined Kit Moore to raise money for Make-A-Wish, in return for an opportunity to do the Rope for Hope rappel. Good news everyone! We will be opening Bon Echo June 23rd! You can find our booking instructions and Covid protocols on our website. After navigating the recently announced government Phased approach to opening, the Toronto section is now preparing to re-open the Bon Echo property.  There were many discussions to ensure we are complying with the new COVID regulations, while ensuring the safest and quickest way to open. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we all implement these regulations, processes and begin opening the hut. PSA: Ticks and Lyme Disease

As the weather becomes warmer, and we venture forth into nature, we must be wary of picking up unwanted guests – ticks. Ticks bury their heads into the skin of a host’s body to drink blood and are known for spreading Lyme disease and other vector borne illnesses. While research on ticks and Lyme disease are ongoing, many people have suffered in pain because much is not well-known. Bon Echo Climbing Status Update

A quick update from the ACC Toronto on opening the Bon Echo Property this summer I know we’re all eager to get out climbing at Bon Echo as soon as possible, and I want to let you know that we’re watching the government updates very closely. We’re interpreting they’re meanings as it relates to the hut and opening The Bon Echo property and marinas, as they are also needed to be opened in order for us to get the boat. ACC-YYZ presents: Bon Echo Pictographs discussion panel – June 22nd @ 7:30 pm

In March 2021, a climber in Utah inadvertently bolted three routes (about 5.3) on top of and near Native American rock art, estimated to be 1,000 year old petroglyphs. The climber who had mistakenly identified the rock art as modern-day graffiti, has since taken responsibility for his conduct and has openly apologized for his mistake.
