WHERE: Tonquin Valley, Wates-Gibson Hut, Jasper National Park
WHEN: July 15-22, 2023. Registration starts Friday January 13th, 2023 9am
WHAT: The Tonquin Valley is one of the most remote and quiet valleys in the Canadian Rockies. Hosting some of the best quartzite climbing, surrounded by stunning lakes, glaciers and hikes, and numerous peaks within range of the hut.
We are very excited to announce that ACC Toronto Section Mountaineering Camp is back after a three year hiatus. It will be held in the beautiful and remote Tonquin Valley. We will be staying in the fully equipped Wates Gibson Hut. The approach is an 18km relatively level hike in (~5 hours) along the Astoria River Trail from Mount Edith Cavell. This area has something for all levels of abilities from hiking, scrambling, easy snow mountains, mixed routes and excellent quality quartzite rock climbing ranging from 5th class ridges to 1500m multipitch routes. Food for the week, chef, porters for communal gear and food, as well as shuttle from Jasper is included in the cost.
The Mountaineering Camp will accommodate up to 4 participants for the intro to mountaineering course where you will receive a full week of guided instruction on glacier and snow travel, rope skills, anchor building, crevasse rescue, navigation, and some peaks and climbing throughout the week.
Self guided portion will accommodate up to 20 participants based on leader availability. Participants will be screened for appropriate level of experience.
ACTIVITY:
- Introduction to mountaineering with a guide. (limit of 4 participants)
- Self guided hiking, scrambling, alpine rock climbing, mountaineering (limit of 20 participants)
COST:
- $1,850 intro to mountaineering course. (Based on 4 participants to 1 guide ratio)
- $850 self guided participant (Based on minimum 16 participants)
*Cost is subject to change. Non-refundable deposit of $500 for guided mountaineering course and $300 for self guided participants would be needed by January 27th to secure your spot. Remainder of payment will have the option of installments, due in full by June 1, 2023
REGISTRATION:
To allow everyone a fair chance to attend, registration for the 2023 ACC Toronto Section Mountaineering camp will begin at 9am Friday January 13th, 2022. Please send an email to the Mountaineering Coordinator, Cynthia Chung and indicate what you wish to register for (intro course, self guided rope leader, self guided participant).
