Coming off the recent events at Devil’s Glen Provincial Park, Ontario Alliance of Climbers (OAC) has launched a letter writing campaign in an effort to make our voice heard. In support of climbing access in Ontario, please take 5 minutes to write a letter to government officials and spread word of this campaign to others. There have been some further developments for climbing at Devil’s Glen which have been on the radar for the past year. Once again, Ontario Alliance of Climbers has been monitoring and updating the community on the situation. As it stands, there are signs indicating areas of no rock climbing (within the park). Aspiring participants for the Summer Leadership course are now open. Students will be required to submit a TNF Leadership Application Form and in addition submit both a section endorsement and a letter of reference from an ACMG guide or climbing partner. More information can be found on the ACC Summer Leadership webpage. Deadline to apply is May 10th 2023. We are happy to share an exciting opportunity from Avalanche Canada for backcountry users who identify as part of the 2sLGBTQIA+ community. The new BOLD backcountry grant was created by Avalanche Canada youth ambassador, Alana Norie, to help remove barriers to the backcountry for folks in the queer community. The recipient of the grant will receive an avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel, backpack, and an AST 1 course. It is open to people of all abilities and backcountry disciplines. As some of you know, the club boat we’ve used for over 20 years had become unseaworthy at the end of our Bon Echo 2022 season. The boat ferried club members to and from the Bon Echo hut, to climbs and is our workhorse to running Bon Echo climbing.
