WHEN: Saturday, May 9th, 2026 (10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.)
WHERE: Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area
DESCRIPTION: A rock climbing outing/clinic at Rattlesnake Point where participants will review some basic knots and how to set up top-rope anchors on bolts and then get an opportunity to do some top-rope climbing. Open to both beginner and more-experienced climbers. All participants should know how to tie-in to a rope and how to belay a climber on top-rope (participants that don’t will be provided instruction).
Participants will review these basic knots: overhand, figure of eight and figure of eight on a bight, fisherman’s knot, double-fisherman’s knot, clove hitch, water knot (for webbing)
Participants will review three basic top-rop anchor set-ups: basic tied-off equalized anchor, sliding X with limiter knots, quad anchor
MAX. PARTICIPANTS: 15, at the trip leader’s discretion and pending volunteer availability.
REQUIRED GEAR: Climbing helmet (mandatory), climbing harness, climbing shoes, belay device and pear-shaped locking carabiner, personal tether (e.g. sewn sling with locking carabiner, PAS with locking carabiner, Petzl Connect, etc., …) and any other personal items (e.g. lunch & snacks for the day, water, appropriate clothing, day pack, etc., …)
OPTIONAL GEAR:
If you have this gear, you are welcome to bring it to the clinic:
- anchor building equipment for top-rope
- dynamic climbing rope 60+ m
COST: Participants are responsible for their own park reservations and gate fees to Conservation Halton Parks.

WAIVER: Please read the ACC waiver before attending. Members should ensure that their membership is up to date and that they have signed the online waiver. Non members should be prepared to sign a full-colour, paper copy of the waiver in ink upon arrival to the event.
Preference will be given to people who are ACC members.
