Bold Backcountry Grant – deadline Mar 20

We are happy to share an exciting opportunity from Avalanche Canada for backcountry users who identify as part of the 2sLGBTQIA+ community. The new BOLD backcountry grant was created by Avalanche Canada youth ambassador, Alana Norie, to help remove barriers to the backcountry for folks in the queer community. The recipient of the grant will receive an avalanche transceiver, probe, shovel, backpack, and an AST 1 course. It is open to people of all abilities and backcountry disciplines. Only a few spots left if you are interested in taking the Wilderness First Aid course! Be prepared for your adventures by being ready for adverse situations. This course taught by a certified instructor covers material in Standard First Aid & CPR, plus special material on techniques for wilderness and remote areas. By completing the course, you will receive the Canadian Red Cross Wilderness and Remote First Aid Certificate which meets the high level of standards set by the Canadian Red Cross. Ice Climbing: Algoma Alternative for Family Day Weekend – Feb 17-20

WHEN: Feb 17 – 20, 2023. Departure for Algoma will be Friday, Feb. 17 (after work) and return from Algoma on Monday, Feb. 20, 2022 (after climbing). WHERE: Blind River, and Iron Bridge, Ontario (6 hours north of Toronto) DESCRIPTION: Lots of good ice (but conditions have been poor so far this year). Multiple areas with multiple climbs between 20-50 metres high.
